STEVE (CAPONE) PROKOPY
Steve Prokopy is the Chicago branch writer for Ain’t it Cool News” (www.aintitcool.com). Steve covered the ComicCon TWILIGHT presentation in July of 2008 (and his ears are still ringing!). He had his pick of TWILIGHT celebrity guests to interview at the event. Steve will be at TWILIGHT Chicago to tell us what it was like to be at TWILIGHT Ground Zero!
Steve has contributed film reviews and filmmaker and actor interviews under the name "Capone" since 1997. In 2005, he also joined the staff of the Chicago-based media outlet GapersBlock.com as the site's Friday film critic with his Steve@theMovies column. Steve has been a horror fanatic since he was a youngster, and was even suspended from high school for a day after a presentation he gave his classmates on his hero, make-up master Tom Savini. He has been a Flashback Weekend co-host since it began in 2002.
Geoff is the Chicago-based director of National Vampire, a documentary chronicling the undergournd culture of vampires in the United States. To achieve this, Harkness spent more than two years interviewing and observing a variety of individuals involved with the vampire lifestyle. The research took him from coast to coast, including stops in New York City, San Francisco, New Orleans and, of course, Chicago. The resulting documentary National Vampire offers a powerful, shocking and occasionally hilarious glimpse into this unique subculture.
Martin V. Riccardo is a behavioral hypnotist and the director of Vampire Studies, an information center for vampire fans, which he founded in 1977. He has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and USA Today in relation to his vampire research. Mr. Riccardo has written several books on vampires and many magazine articles. He has communicated with thousands of vampire fans over the years and is one of the cultural experts consulted in National Vampire.
Founded in Chicago in 1977 as the Vampire Studies Society by Martin V. Riccardo, the organization was the first vampire fan club to use the word "vampire" in its name (there had previously been several organizations built around Dracula). For several years the society published a Journal of Vampirism. The word "society" was dropped in 1990 and Vampire Studies now exists as a correspondence network and information clearing-house for people interested in all aspects of vampire lore. Those interested may contact Riccardo at P.O. Box 151, Berwyn, IL 60402-0151.
Martin will be presenting his slide lecture, "Vampires: The Creatures of the Night".
